He never stopped for me while I was alive, so why would he look back after I died? I would be foolish to expect to be remembered by him after being reduced to a pile of rotting meat.
I followed my remains back to the patrol unit, where Damon turned me over for forensic examination.
For some reason, since seeing Damon, my soul has been cursed to hover around him, unable to leave.
I watched helplessly as he and the forensic team poked and prodded at my unrecognisable remains.
My soul was nailed to his every moment by some darker obsession than death, and I couldn’t escape or break free; even looking away became a luxury.
My body felt like a disassembled doll, with bones twisted and spread apart in defying nature.
“A female Omega, about 23 years old. The attacker appeared to harbour a deep hatred for her. Prior to being blown apart, she had been subjected to brutal physical abuse.
“Most importantly… the victim was two months pregnant.”
The room’s atmosphere became heavy and solemn as he spoke.
“Abuse… blown up… two lives lost…” Each word pierced the hearts of everyone in the room.
I was stunned, staring at my dissected abdomen. I… Was she pregnant?
The baby was still very small. I hadn’t felt its presence yet, but it had already been forced to leave this world. Tears blurred my vision, cascading down like a broken dam.
Damon sighed after hearing the forensics report.
“That’s truly tragic. Time is tight. Let’s try to solve this case quickly. At least it’ll bring some justice to the mother and child. I’ve wrapped up my other tasks, so I can focus on this one first.”
I looked at Damon and laughed bitterly. Would he still be as calm if he knew the ones who died were me and his own child? Damon’s expression was strange as he left the patrol station. He leaned against the doorway, idly chatting with Anthony, who attempted to advise him.
“Damon, ups and downs are normal between mates. If Daisy’s angry, you could just coax her with a few kind words and make it up to her.”
Damon sneered. “Coax her? She doesn’t know her place and keeps pushing the limits. First, she calls me during a patrol, then tries to manipulate me with lies. What’s next? Faking her own death?”
He had no idea I was really dead. Will he regret his words once he knows the truth?
It didn’t matter any more. All I wanted to do now was leave this place and his world.
Anthony sighed as he realised he couldn’t convince him. The investigation began with missing persons. After a few days of casework, Damon was only able to identify a few female Omegas who met the criteria.
That’s when his phone rang. It was Mira.
“Damon, when will you be done? I went to your room to look for you today, but you weren’t there.”
Damon forced a smile despite being exhausted from working late nights. “I’m working on a case. I’ll come to see you as soon as I finish, okay?”
