Forsaken By My Mate – Chapter 4

Mira’s voice was soft and sweet. She was obviously trying to be coquettish.

“I wanted to go to the forest for some fresh air, but I don’t dare go without you. You always used to come with me…”

Damon spoke gently, rather than becoming irritated with her for bothering him at work. “I promise, once I finish this mess, I’ll ask James for a few days off and take you out for some fun, okay?”

Mira enquired playfully, “Alright. But I’m curious—what kind of case is keeping you away from me?”

“A female Omega was kidnapped by a rogue and killed using a homemade wolfsbane bomb. We’re still identifying the victim. Early leads suggest she had a grudge with the rogue.”

He chuckled and said in a friendly tone, “Now, you get scared easily, so you better not listen to the details, or you’ll be too scared to sleep.”

I sneered as I watched the scene unfold, bothered by the irony. He had time to worry about Mira’s fear, but he never wondered where I was.

Damon had always treated Mira and me in diametrically opposed ways. After hanging up, he returned to reviewing the files and comparing them to missing person cases.

The moon was high in the night sky by the time he finished. There were no matches at all. The investigation had come to a dead end.

“Send out the victim’s description. See if any other packs have someone missing who hasn’t been reported yet,” Damon instructed, his gaze fixed on my corpse.

His subordinate nodded and promptly contacted the liaison officers between packs. In less than ten minutes, the case details had spread throughout Moondell.

Damon’s phone suddenly rang. My soul, which was weakened and drifting beside Damon, became alert as soon as I heard the voice on the line.

It was my dad. He spoke in a panicked and tired tone.

“Damon… Daisy’s been missing for days now… The description in the report released by the patrol unit… It’s an exact match. “She would never just disappear like this. My daughter. Something must have happened to her!”

I froze, and tears began to flow uncontrollably down my cheeks.

“Mom and Dad, I’m so sorry. “I’ll never feel the warmth of your embrace again,” I muttered. Damon hadn’t slept for several nights and was extremely irritable right now.

“Daisy is your daughter.” She was having a meltdown and had cut off all communication with her family! What a wilful woman! Why have you come to me? You should go find her yourself! I am working right now.”

My father, who was too concerned about my safety to care about Damon’s annoyed tone, pleaded, “Aren’t you the patrol chief?” I’d like to file a report; please help me find Daisy!”

Damon’s expression became colder and more agitated.

“Your daughter messaged me before she disappeared. She cut off our communication and made up a ridiculous excuse to blackmail me into meeting her. She is just being dramatic and hiding because I did not give her what she wanted.
