The Luna He Chose – Chapter 1

“Selene is joining us for the Midnight Bloom Pack; make sure to get them the tickets,” Noah said as I sorted the gifts we were bringing back.

I paused and looked at him, exhausted.

After Jace died, Noah began to constantly mention Selene. He never stopped worrying about her and Leo.

She called him whenever something went wrong, such as a broken door lock. She cried when Leo suffered a minor cut and called him again.

Even at my birthday party, Noah left in the middle when Selene called. I had to face the guests alone.

I had tried to talk to him about it, but he cut me off with one sentence.

“Jace saved my life.”

That resolved all of my complaints.

I remained quiet. I had hoped that one day Selene would move on and Noah and I could resume our normal lives.

A year had passed, and Selene was even more reliant on him.

She wanted to join us on Family Day.

I tried to stop it. “Family day is for us and our parents. Selene is not part of our family. She might feel awkward.”

Noah frowned. “How is she not part of our family? She’s close to us. Seeing us together reminds her of Jace. She cried again yesterday. I don’t want her and Leo to feel alone. That is why I asked them to come.”

“But this is one of the few times we get to be with our parents-”

Noah sighed. He spoke as though he were soothing a difficult child. “Family dinners are better with more people. My parents like Leo. They are happy to have them join us.”

I stopped talking when I learnt that his parents were fine with it.

Noah made a decision and turned to leave.

“Selene has Leo with her, and I am helping her to pack up her luggage. Just leave the luggage by the door when you’re done. I’ll move it later.”

I felt drained as I looked at the mess of bags.

He never helped me pack in five years, always saying it was no big deal. He was only helping to carry things.

Nonetheless, he offered to help Selene without being asked.

I no longer wanted to be married to someone who was always in the middle.

I picked up my phone and requested a bond-breaking potion from the witch.

The potion would quietly end the mate bond of two werewolves who had signed the Mate Bond Termination Agreement. The pain would affect both of us.

I intended to pick it up tomorrow before we left. I would also go to the pack’s city hall and complete the agreement.

After the trip to the Midnight Bloom Pack, I would break the bond with Noah.

This would be the final time I saw his parents as their daughter-in-law. I would spend it wisely.

Noah did not return until nightfall. He held a steaming deer heart in his hands.
