It was dark by the time Frank got there. He knocked on the door for a long time and called, but no one replied.
He was scared and sought for aid to break down the door.
As soon as the door opened, the strong smell of blood smacked him in the face, making his brows knit together. He walked up and noticed Jay laying on the ground right away.
“Mr. Grant!”
Jay woke up in a hospital bed.
Frank whispered softly, “Mr. Grant, you can’t keep drinking like this.”
Jay didn’t pay attention. Instead, he used the arm without an IV drip to feel around his body for anything.
“Where’s my red string? The red string…”
He was so scared that his eyes were wide open, and without thinking, he yanked the IV needle out of his arm.
“Mr. Grant! Please stop! You need to rest!” Frank yelled, trying to calm Jay down. “What are you looking for? Just tell me and I’ll help you find it.”
Jay grasped Frank’s arm quickly. “Did you see the crimson string? The one that was cut into pieces?
“It was something Kyra brought back for me from the mountains. I eventually discovered it in her closet, and I can’t lose it! Please help me look for it! You need to help me find it! ”
Jay’s grip on Frank’s arm made it crimson. Frank tried to keep Jay down, but Jay pulled him away with force.
“Mr. Frank said quickly, When you came in, Grant, you made a big fuss. The red string may have fallen on the way here or in the hospital. Don’t worry; I’ll find it. “Let me just get a nurse to put your IV back in—”
Jay jumped out of bed and ran out of the room before he could finish.
“Mr. Grant! You just had an operation! You can’t get up! “Frank yelled.
But Jay didn’t listen to him. He was holding his stomach in anguish and every step he took felt like his insides were being ripped apart. He was sweating from the pain. When he got off the lift, he fell to the ground, his head hitting the ground with a horrible thud.
“Mr. Grant! ”
Frank hurried to pull him up, looking torn. “Mr. Compared to the red string, the company needs you more than ever right now. Please, get it together. Ms. Spark is no longer here. It’s time to move on.
“And she loved you so much. She wouldn’t want to see you like this.”
Jay’s eyes got big.
Yes, Kyra had loved him.
But he had injured her many times before. He didn’t help the Spark family even when they were in distress.
He was out of breath, wiped the blood off his forehead, and allowed Frank help him back to bed. He didn’t want to, but he started to work with the treatment. He took the pills and allowed the IV be connected again.
Everything else seemed normal, except that he had trouble sleeping every night.
Jay got back to work as soon as he got out of the hospital. He worked late into the night and ate and slept at the office.
Frank stood back and watched him through the door.
Jay had been strangely calm since he went back to work. He even made plans to buy Spark Corporation and put all the greatest resources into it.
The Grant family wanted him to change the name of Spark Corporation and give it to their younger relatives. Jay kicked them all out without even blinking.
He had already created too many enemies for the Spark family, and now he had also made enemies with the Grant family.
Frank shook his head and let out a sigh.
“What’s wrong? Are you worried about Mr. Grant again? Isn’t he moving on? He’s even more ruthless than before.”
Frank’s gaze turned back to Jay, who was crouched over his desk.
“Can’t you feel it?”
“Feel what?”
“There’s this air of death around Mr. Grant. Like he’s already given up on everything.”
Jay’s phone buzzed with multiple birthday greetings. It was only then that he barely remembered that today was his birthday.
He felt like a machine that had turned off his brain. He idly swept his fingers around the computer, and somehow he landed up on Kyra’s messages.

[Jay, happy birthday.]
The words on the screen felt like a beast, consuming him.
He felt an icy sensation sweep across his body, as if some invisible animal had dug its teeth into him, tearing him apart. His whole body shook violently because of the anguish that he couldn’t get away from.
The phone fell out of his grasp and onto the floor.
Was it because Kyra knew him so well? Knew that he wouldn’t read the message even if she sent it? Or was it his fault for not being careful?
He never realised that she was the first person to wish him a happy birthday every year.
His chest hurt and felt constricted. He held his chest, as if he were attempting to calm his breathing.
After a while, he calmed himself, grabbed his car keys, and headed out toward the firm.
The villa was strangely quiet in the dead of night.
As soon as he opened the door, a horrible scent hit him.
It was the stink of decomposing flesh.
He didn’t bother turning on the lights, gently making his approach to the location where Jenna’s body lay.
She had starved to death.
