For a week, Kyra didn’t talk to Jay. She also left the house where they had resided since they got married. Jay didn’t care at first.
But the idea of the four things she still wanted him to accomplish made him feel uneasy. Kyra would suddenly cling to him again if he didn’t finish them soon.
He couldn’t help it and finally called her.
Kyra’s phone rang right after she finished a round of chemotherapy. Her health was growing worse. Her whole body hurt, even her bones.
“There are still four things left, Kyra. Don’t do anything dumb.”
For a moment, Kyra was quiet.
“I want to go to Muniville.”
Jay frowned. “Now?”
“Yes. Right now.”
Jay really believed that Kyra was crazy. But he actually did book a flight to Muniville right away, just to get rid of her and get the divorce over with.
Kyra was all wrapped up. Jay was already annoyed by the time she got there.
“What’s your problem? I offered to pick you up, but you said no. Now you’re late.”
He kept complaining.
Kyra didn’t say much. She gave him her baggage. “You’re too talkative.”
Jay made a face, but he grabbed everything from her hands without saying anything.
He didn’t even know how natural it felt.
Jay’s phone rang just as the plane was ready to take off.
Kyra was standing at the gate and looking at him from across the street.
Jay’s hand gripped the phone tightly, and his whole body became stiff.
“Sorry, Kyra. I can’t go to Muniville with you.”
Jay sprinted out of the airport right after he said it.
Kyra took out her phone without thinking.
As she had thought, the first post on her feed was from Jenna Scot. The second person didn’t write anything; they just shared a painting.
That was all it took for Jay to leave Kyra and the promise he made.
“Miss, we’re going to close the gate now.”
Kyra shook it off, stopped gazing at him, and turned to go the other way. Jay texted Kyra as she got to Muniville.
[I’ll be two days late.] Have fun first.
Kyra was a bit shocked. Instead of just leaving her, he was going to be late.
I guess he truly did want to get away from her.
Kyra didn’t wait. She hired a local guide and went on a tour. But she couldn’t keep up. Most of the time, she was alone in her room, relaxing.
She was ready to depart by the time Jay got there because she had already packed her bag.
“Kyra, I left a lot of work behind to come all the way out here and go along with your craziness. Do you think this is funny?”
He was so mad that he kicked over her suitcase.
Kyra laughed bitterly as her garments fell all over the floor.
“Really? You want to go with me? Isn’t Jenna next door?”
Jay stopped moving, and when he spoke again, his voice shook a little. “Jenna is only here to draw. You don’t have to fight with her every time.”
Kyra’s fingers curled a little, but she didn’t say anything else. She bent down and started to pick up her clothes. “Am I in the way?”
Jenna unexpectedly showed up in the doorway, and Jay’s fury went away right away.
Concern and urgency took their place.
“Why are you up? You said you weren’t feeling well.”
“Oh, I can’t just lie around all day. What were you and Ms Spark talking about? I heard loud voices, so I thought I’d come check.”
Jay looked at Kyra as he heard Jenna say something.
“Don’t worry about it. Are you hungry? I’ll get you something to eat.”
Jenna nodded her head a little, shyly.
Jay was about to depart when he abruptly halted. He stared at Kyra and was definitely angry.
“What about you? What do you want to eat?”
Kyra had just finished putting away the last of her clothes, and even that little bit of work made her sweat. She could hear how his tone changed and how he went back and forth.
She said softly, “Nothing. I’m fine.”
Jay’s face got gloomy as soon as he heard her say no. “Do what you want. You look like a ghost already! You can starve if you want.”
Then the door slammed shut behind him, leaving Kyra and Jenna alone in the room.
Kyra had met her before.
The Scot family had made a lot of money quickly, and it was new money. Of course, the Grant family thought less of them.
Jenna had always believed the Grant family was rude and snobby because she was proud.
She had gone off in rage, wanting to establish a name for herself in another country.
Now she had came back with her tail between her legs. And what did she do first?
Get back together with your old flame.
Kyra thought the whole situation was sad from the outside.
And because Jay was gone, Jenna didn’t even try to hide it.
“Ms. Spark, it’s been a long time.”
She kicked Kyra’s suitcase over while she was talking. In a moment, everything Kyra had meticulously organised and folded was ruined.
Seeing how effortlessly her hard work was undone made Kyra angry.
She knew Jenna was doing it on purpose to get on her nerves.
And it worked.
Kyra slapped her in the face without thinking.
Jay got there just in time to see the crimson handprint growing on Jenna’s cheek and her eyes filling with tears.
