The silence lasted, and the seconds went by.
Kyra’s eyes hurt, so she swiftly turned her head.
“What are you talking about?” That’s all; I’ve never ridden one before.
Jay’s phone rang right then, breaking the moment. Jenna muttered something quickly on the other end.
Jay hurried out again after hanging up.
This time, he didn’t even say he was sorry.
Kyra stared down at the city below her as the Ferris wheel soared to the top.
“Happy birthday, Kyra,” she muttered through her tears.
Kyra was sent to the hospital right away after that day since she had a high temperature.
She could hear machines beeping steadily next to her, but it felt like the world had gone absolutely silent.
Kyra imagined she saw Jay standing beside her bed in her fevered dreams. But even though she was so sick, there was no sign of pity in his eyes.
Instead, he smiled at her in a sadistic way.
“That’s what you get.” Karma always gets the bad people. “Just die now, and I won’t have to waste my time finishing that dumb last task of yours.”
Kyra’s teeth were clenched in the dream because she was so angry.
But what about her heart?
It hurt a lot.
She took a deep breath and forced herself to wake up.
But the person she wanted to see wasn’t there.
“Thank God you’re finally awake. Do you realise how long you’ve been gone? ”
Kyra had always been strong-willed, and the people in her life only cared about power and their own reputations.
The Spark family had collapsed, and Jay clearly didn’t care about her. Everyone knew he would be the first to laugh at her downfall, so they had all selected sides long ago and cut relations with her.
The only one remaining with her was Tera Musk, a close friend and nurse who had been discreetly taking care of her. When she heard Tera’s comments, she looked over in a panic.
“What day is it today?” ”
Tera assumed Kyra was unhappy again since she didn’t have much time left. She tried to cover her face and spoke softly to reassure her.
“The 28th.” Kyra, you-
Kyra interrupted her. “My wig.” Where is it? ”
Tera stopped for a second, shocked. “It’s right here. I protected it for you.
Kyra’s fingers curled a little as she slipped the wig from her hands. She looked down, and her thoughts were inscrutable.
“Did anyone come to see me while I was gone?” ”
When she spoke, her voice was careful, and her fingers tightened around the wig.
Tera’s chest hurt when she saw Kyra like way, but she didn’t want to lie to her.
“Kyra… Jay hasn’t shown up.
She swiftly turned her head and blinked the redness out of her eyes.
He didn’t just not show there; he also didn’t heed to the calls and clues Tera had given him.
“Coma? What kind of a joke is that? He had said coldly, “Kyra would never be the one in a coma.”
“I have a lot to do. I don’t have time to go along with her bullshit. I’m not going to do anything else for her except that last thing she wants. Tell her to stop wasting time for everyone! ”
Jay got a call from Kyra.
She lost her patience when he turned down the call three times in a row.
She texted him.
He did call back in less than two minutes, as promised.
But his voice sounded quite fatigued.
“Jenna is sick.” “I need to stay with her,” he added. “We’ll take care of the last thing in a few days.”
He was about to hang up when Kyra said, “No!” ”
Jay laughed coldly right after she said it. “It’s only two days, not a breach of contract.” Don’t push it, Kyra! ”
She chuckled, attempting to sound light, even though her whole body hurt. Her nose hurt, and she had herself swallow the lump in her throat.
“Jay, there’s only one thing left. You’re free after that. What are you having second thoughts about? Do you want to stay married to me for a little while longer? That’s fine with me. That’s fine with me.
Jay had always had trouble keeping his cool when she talked to him like that.
And, as always, it worked.
Kyra held her phone and laughed till she couldn’t stop, even when tears streamed down her face and into her mouth.
The bitterness of it all seemed like a knife twisting in her heart.
She was scared he would realise anything was wrong and make fun of her again, even though she was so near to the conclusion.
Kyra requested Tera to help her put on cosmetics before he got there.
It typically only took five minutes to walk down the stairs, but it took Kyra about twenty minutes to get to Jay.
“You’re moving so slowly. It’s the last thing. “Just say it,” Jay said.
He was visibly angry, but Kyra wasn’t in a hurry. She went in the passenger seat, belted up, and only looked at him when she was comfortable.
“Make me lunch,” she urged. “It’s easy.”
Jay looked at her like he didn’t believe it. “Just lunch?”
Kyra nodded and said, “Just lunch.”
He continued looking at her, not sure if she was toying with him or not.
Kyra had made the first four things as hard as she could. So for the last one, Jay thought it would be something crazy, like plucking the moon out of the sky.
But to his astonishment, Kyra just wanted a home-cooked meal.
He looked at the time, sent a few texts, and then drove them to the store.
