He glared at Kyra with rage in his eyes. Then, out of nowhere, he ran up and grabbed the wig from Jenna’s hands. He ripped it apart and threw it out like it was trash.
“Kyra, do you have no shame? You’re using this to threaten me now? You think I’m scared? Let me tell you right now—even if you said you were dying in the next second, I would still end things with you before you go!”
Kyra’s tears began to fall in long, quiet streams. She cried and her voice broke.
“Jay, do you really hate me that much?”
Jay looked at her with his gaze fixed on her face. Suddenly, a gentle hand reached for his and pressed against his palm.
He looked down, not wanting to see Kyra’s broken, tear-streaked face.
“Kyra, it’s been three years. Can’t you see it yet?”
Yes. Three years.
She had been holding on to a slab of ice the whole while.
He didn’t care how clean she kept their house. He never noticed that the clothes he wore every morning were picked out and laid out particularly for him.
They had been together for three years. But to him, it felt like he was simply a visitor at this house.
And Kyra had been clinging on and acting like everything was fine, living off of that lie.
Kyra’s tears had dried up.
She was serene again, like she always was.
“Tomorrow morning at nine o’clock, I’ll be waiting for you outside the courthouse.”
She reached down and took her wig out of the trash. Then she left the house they used to share without looking back.
As she departed, Jay looked at her thin, weak back, and something in his chest twisted. His legs were already moving after her before he could think.
“Jay!”
Jenna reached around and grabbed his arm.
She couldn’t believe it.
“Where are you going?”
Jay blinked and came back to reality. Then he scowled profoundly.
“I just want to check on her. Why would she shave her head out of the blue? I don’t know other people, but I know Kyra. One time I accidentally pulled out one strand of her hair, and she almost gouged my eyes out for it. Now she has shaved it all off? That can’t be normal.”
When Jenna saw that he was truly going to go for Kyra, her face turned sour.
She suddenly grabbed her tummy and bent over in pain.
Jay stopped all of a sudden.
“Jay, go after Ms. Spark. Don’t worry about me.”
Jay gazed down at Jenna, whose face was pale and she was plainly in pain. He bent down and picked her up.
“I’ll take you to the hospital first.”
She fell down on the side of the road not long after Kyra left.
A nice stranger took her to the hospital right away.
Tera was there when she woke up. The latter was gently wiping the sweat from Kyra’s forehead, and her face was full of worry.
“Is it still hurting?”
Kyra was in so much anguish that she could hardly breathe.
“T-Tera, can you help me get a train ticket?”
“You’re in this state and still want to go somewhere?”
Kyra cautiously reached up and wiped away the tears on her friend’s cheek.
“Eastwood’s weather is always rainy and gloomy. I never had time before. Now that I can finally slow down, I just want to walk around.”
Tera held back her tears. She couldn’t say no when she saw Kyra’s fragile, pale face.
“I’ll go with you.”
Kyra shook her head.
She had already bothered Tera too much. She realised her buddy was just there because she was afraid she would die alone and no one would be able to take care of her things.
“You’ve worked so hard to get your life back on track. I’ve already taken up too much of your time. I don’t even know how to thank you.”
Tera’s tears fell like rain. When Kyra said that, she threw herself over her and cried fiercely.
“You’re an idiot! Who said you have to pay me back? You should stay alive! Why should those two jerks get off easy? When Jenna left without saying anything, Jay jumped in the car and after her. That’s how he got into that accident!
“If you hadn’t put aside your pride to be with him and pretend to be Jenna, giving him the will to live again, the Grant family would have given up on him a long time ago. Why should you have to go through all of this? Who even knows how much pain you’re in? ”
“I’ve already let go, Tera.”
Jay had agreed to leave at a certain time, but that time had long since past and he was still there.
He set down the cup of water he had brought for Jenna when she requested him for the third time.
“Oh? Is it time yet? ”
Jenna frowned as she observed Jay, who seemed like he was lost in thought.
“Jay, what’s up? Don’t you want to go and finish your divorce? ”
“Of course I do!” “He instinctively snapped back.
“I only wanted her to wait a bit longer. I’ve been stuck with her in this marriage for three years. We’re finally getting a divorce, but she keeps coming up with excuses to put it off. I’ll let her wait a little longer.
Jenna wasn’t sure, but she finally calmed down when she saw him get up and get ready to leave.
Jay still didn’t start the engine after getting in the automobile.
He didn’t know what was wrong with him.
It was evident that he had been looking forward to it for a long time.
He aggressively stomped on his cigarette b**t.
He felt uneasy just thinking about Kyra’s shorn head. He had tried to call her since that day, but she hadn’t answered. She had also ignored the texts he sent.
