A sudden thought occurred to him. The hospital needed to know where the child went.
Jayden stood in Megacity Hospital’s director’s office, glaring at the sweating middle-aged man in front of him. His icy stare became colder with each passing second. “You don’t remember?”
Sweat dripped into the director’s eyes, stinging. He quickly wiped it away, only to be met by Jayden’s sharp, hawk-like gaze. The heat soaking his body turned to an icy chill, trapping him in place.
The director instinctively stepped back, forcing a nervous smile. “Mr. Lewis, it’s not that I forget. It’s just that I’ve never experienced this personally. “I’m trying, but I can’t remember the details.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, the temperature in the room seemed to plummet; the sun was shining brightly outside, but inside, it felt as cold as winter, and the chill seeped into his bones.
Desperate, the director quickly added, “Mr. Lewis, I will contact the OB/GYN team right away. I will get them all in here. I promise that we will figure this out.”
Jayden didn’t say anything; his only response was a cold stare before he turned and sat on the couch. The director rushed forward and poured him a cup of tea.
Jayden took the cup, his dark eyes fixed on the swirling liquid inside; the reddish tint of the tea appeared to reflect in his eyes. “One hour,” he said calmly.
The director understood exactly what that meant. He breathed a small sigh of relief, grateful for the brief moment of grace.
But inside, he cursed the situation. Who dared to cross this man? Whoever it was, once Jayden discovered it, they would be skinned alive.
When the director noticed Jayden sitting there, waiting, he forced a smile. “I’ll handle it right away, Mr. Lewis.”
He rushed out of the office, barking orders as soon as he entered the hallway. “Get every OB-GYN staff member into the meeting room now! No exceptions!”
He paced back and forth outside the door, wiping sweat from his brow and anxiously looking at his watch.
After what seemed like an eternity, everyone arrived.
“Director, what’s the emergency? I have surgery soon.”
“Yeah, what’s going on? I was in the middle of a prenatal checkup.”
“Did you notice it’s just the OB-GYN staff? Are we getting sent somewhere remote?”
“They can’t! We’re overloaded with patients right now!”
The director cleared his throat, his expression dead serious as he addressed the group. “Three years ago, did any of you handle a case involving Victoria Perez?”
“Victoria Perez? That name rings a bell.”
“Wait, wasn’t she the heiress of Perez Corporation? Jayden Lewis’s wife?”
“That’s right! I thought they got divorced. My dream man, ruined by her!”
Bang!
The room fell silent in surprise as the usually calm director slammed his fist on the table.
“Enough! Think carefully. Who worked on her case?” The director’s bloodshot eyes glared at them, desperation written across his face.
If they didn’t respond quickly, Mr. Lewis would destroy him.
Following a tense pause, a young female doctor nervously raised her hand and adjusted her glasses. “I think it was Dr. Alex, but he left a while ago. His assistant at the time was…”
“Who?”
“Me.”
The director clutched his chest, almost as if he was going to collapse. His voice trembled with urgency as he pointed to her. “Explain! What happened?”
Back in the office, the director stood in front of Jayden, sweating profusely and struggling to catch his breath. “Mr. Lewis, we’ve looked into it. Your wife was indeed pregnant with twins. But because the babies were so small, we couldn’t determine if they were fraternal twins.”
“Couldn’t determine?” Jayden’s eyes darkened, and his voice was filled with barely contained rage. “That’s all you got?” The director trembled, unable to meet Jayden’s lethal gaze. “I-I…”
He tried to explain, but when he looked up and saw Jayden’s bloodshot eyes, all words died in his throat.
Jayden slowly rose from his seat, his body tensed and his face twisted in fury. “Find out if it was a boy or a girl. You have one day. If I don’t get answers, I’ll tear this hospital apart.”
Every word was slow, deliberate, and icy, sending shivers down the director’s spine.
At Villa Fluvia, Jayden leaned against the bar, holding a glass of red wine. He tilted his head back and took a single gulp.
A massive screen in front of him displayed a video of the small cabin. Victoria was seen carrying Nora, her expression a mix of relief and joy. She smiled brightly at the camera, “Jayden, I’m taking Nora with me.”
Even after she vanished into the cabin, Jayden’s gaze remained fixed on the screen.
The scene was repeated, with Victoria holding Nora and walking towards him again.
Smash.
The wineglass shattered in his hand, and shards fell to the floor. Red wine and fresh blood dripped from his fingers.
But Jayden didn’t appear to notice the pain. His bloodshot eyes remained glued to the screen, his voice low and hollow. “Victoria, where did you go?”
Ding. Ding. Ding.
His phone lit up and vibrated on the spinning bar. It was his private phone.
Who the hell was messaging him right now?
Jayden glanced at the phone, irritation flashing in his eyes. He was about to throw it away when something stopped him. “Want to know the truth? Come to Greenlife Hospital at 2 p.m. today; all the information you need is there. Don’t be late.” He looked at the unknown number, suspicion darkening his expression.
Who was this? How did they know what he was looking for? How did they know just what he needed?
He dialled the number by sliding his finger across the screen, but a robotic female voice responded, “Sorry, the number you’ve dialled is currently unavailable. Please try again later.”
There were less than 30 minutes until 2 p.m., and the drive from Villa Fluvia to Greenlife Hospital took exactly half an hour.
