Twisted Vows – Chapter 33

As he realised what was going on, his expression became serious. If the company belonged to her, none of her accusations against Jayden would be valid.

He picked up the phone, placed a quick call, and listened for a moment. When he hung up, his face turned ashen. “Boss, the company’s ownership was transferred to you a year ago. Jayden only has 5% of the original shares left.”

Victoria returned her attention to the document in her hands after taking in Mr. Bennett’s uneasy expression. “Me? So the company hasn’t been his for the past year?”

Mr. Bennett appeared to be on the verge of tears. Nobody could have predicted Jayden had already transferred his shares to her a full year ago.

His fingers clenched at his sides, and after a long pause, he spoke cautiously, “This information is reliable. They’re certain that Jayden transferred the company over a year ago and hasn’t owned it since.”

“It’s not his anymore… not his…” Victoria said to herself. “So, all the documents he’s signed with me over these past six months are invalid?”

“Invalid? But that means all of the evidence we gathered…” Mr. Bennett repeated, staring at her in surprise.

Victoria’s eyes welled with tears as she choked out, “Yes, it’s all invalid because he never had the authority to sign any of it.”

“Then why did he go through with it?” Mr. Bennett asked, perplexed.

He didn’t understand it. Isn’t Jayden supposed to hate her? Wasn’t she supposed to be looking for vengeance? So, what kind of game was he playing?

It hit her suddenly. Victoria remembered Jayden’s gentle smile and immediately understood why he had done it.

But how could Jayden expect her to simply accept it?

What gave him the right to make such a decision for her?

And why would he think this was helpful?

Her chest felt as if it was stuffed with cotton, suffocating her and making each breath thin and shallow. The ache spread throughout her heart, becoming almost unbearable.

Victoria pressed her hand tightly against her chest, attempting to relieve the pain. She opened her mouth, intending to say something. However, before the words could be formed, tears streamed down her cheeks.

“Is Boss crying?” Mr. Bennett wondered to himself.

He was stunned. Victoria, to him, had always represented strength, resilience, and unbreakability. Yet here she was, tears streaming down her cheeks.

“Boss, I didn’t mean it. Maybe it’s not true. Yeah, it could all just be a trick!” He groaned. Mr. Bennett was completely taken aback when he saw Victoria’s tear-streaked face, and sweat beaded on his brow.

What was Jayden up to?

How could someone as tough as her break down over a single comment from Mr. Bennett?

Wiping sweat from his brow, he reflected, “If the others find out I made Boss cry, they’ll tear me apart.”

“It’s not a lie; I know why he did it…” Victoria’s voice faded as she broke down. Her uncontrollable sobs were filled with regret, anger, and frustration.

Mr. Bennett stood helpless, pacing back and forth until her sobs subsided.

Victoria wiped her nose, her voice raspy and broken. “He never believed I was dead. He knew I wouldn’t just disappear, so he prepared for this. So, after all, the person who understands me best in this world is still him!”

Mr. Bennett attempted to piece together her words, but he was still unable to comprehend everything. The wealthy world was truly perplexing.

He wondered, “If he’d already given you the company, why did he plead guilty and go to prison?”

“Because he wants to settle with me!” Victoria’s voice came out in a raspy tone, thick with venom. “He won’t get off that easily!”

Did Jayden really believe that going to prison would erase his debt to her and allow him to walk away from it all?

No way. She clenched her teeth and silently vowed she would never let him go.

“Withdraw your lawsuit!”

“But, Boss, the court has already issued the decision.” They will not agree to retract it!”

Victoria took a deep breath, her eyes flashing with determination: “Get him out of prison!”

The high walls transformed the sky into a small, boxed-in world, cutting off any connection between them and making the longing grow stronger, like a rising tide. Moonlight streamed down like a gentle river, illuminating every corner.

Jayden lay on his narrow bed, staring out the tiny window, watching familiar scenes flash past like an old film.

He imagined her standing by the dining table, an apron around her waist and a smile as bright as a spring morning. “Come taste my new recipe,” she had said, beaming with pride. “It’s definitely better this time.”

He looked at her, his eyes gleaming with amusement. “You sure? Not like the last attempt, right?” When she glared at him, he stifled a laugh. “Okay, I believe you. But how about I try some soup first?”

He couldn’t help but laugh as he spoke. She stomped her foot playfully. “Fine then, no food for you!”
